The main drawback of the present education system in India is the students’ inability to connect with the syllabus. Most of us would have had this question in our minds at some point of our student career “What am I going to do by studying this?” “How are algebra and trigonometry going to help me in real life?”
Though algebra and trigonometry have a lot to do with our day to day life, the question arises as we are not aware of it during our schooling days. We study with the sole purpose of scoring marks and fail to realize the ultimate purpose of education which is to gain knowledge.
To bridge this gap between students and the syllabus Central Square Foundation (CSF), a non-profit education foundation in India has come up with the idea of introducing Foundational Learning after conducting several researches. Foundational Learning will help students to develop their reading and math skills to a great extent as early as they are at their 3rd class.
The introduction of foundational learning to primary education in India will help students realize their potential and will show them their strengths and weaknesses. This way one can be illuminated about their interests and forte, and concentrating on that particular subject will lead them to more fruitful opportunities in the future.
CSF has organized several programmes to educate the education ecosystem about the importance of foundational learning and has also provided them with all the necessary research and knowledge material for its implementation. It has also partnered with several individuals, governments, and other foundations to leverage technology as it can make foundational learning easy.
CSF developed a content partnership with Google.org in early 2018 and has received funds from organizations and foundations such as Steadview Capital and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The latter has promised to fund $16 million for implementing foundational learning at primary levels which will add to CSF Chairman’s contribution of ₹100 crore.
These funding and partnerships add more strength for research, man power, knowledge, and material and as a result, we can expect foundational learning to reach each and every student of India which is the sole objective of CSF.
